Foot Orthotics and Inserts

Walk in Comfort with Custom Orthotic Products

WHAT ARE CUSTOM ORTHOTICS?

The purpose of custom orthotics is to support and comfort your feet. Each pair is made specifically for you by experts like those at J.L. Artificial Limb & Brace in Bullhead City, AZ. Your feet are precisely shaped and designed for the way you move in them. An orthotic can only be manufactured after a podiatrist has evaluated your feet, ankles, and legs, so that the orthotic can accommodate your unique foot structure and pathology.

There are two types of prescription orthotics:
  • Functional orthotics are designed to control abnormal motion. In addition to treating foot pain caused by abnormal motion, they can also treat injuries such as shin splints or tendinitis. Orthotics are usually made of semi-rigid materials such as plastic or graphite.
  • Orthotics that provide additional cushioning and support are accommodating orthotics. These can be used to treat diabetic foot ulcers, painful calluses on the bottom of the foot, and other conditions.

Orthotics are used by podiatrists to treat foot problems such as plantar fasciitis, bursitis, tendinitis, diabetic foot ulcers, and foot, ankle, and heel pain. Studies have shown that podiatrist-prescribed foot orthotics reduce foot pain and improve function.

WHEN TO VISIT AN EXPERT

If you simply need extra cushioning or support, you may want to try an over-the-counter shoe insert first. If you have severe pain or discomfort, however, schedule an appointment with a podiatrist. Your doctor will examine your overall health and look for any other contributing factors. Podiatrists today are specially trained to assess the biomechanics of the lower extremities. We at J.L. Artificial Limb & Brace can help you to find and customize the perfect orthotics for you.

They will examine your feet and how you walk. Your doctor will listen carefully to your complaints and concerns, as well as assess your lower extremity movement and function. Additionally, some use advanced technology to observe how your feet function while walking or running.

During the exam, your podiatrist will determine if shoe inserts can be helpful or if you need prescription orthotics. Your podiatrist will take a three-dimensional image of each foot if orthotics are needed. The images, as well as any measurements are taken by your podiatrist, are used to design a set of foot supports that will enhance your foot movement and increase your comfort and mobility. Your podiatrist may also suggest additional treatments to improve the function and comfort of your feet. If you’re struggling to walk without pain or discomfort, don’t go another day without help.
